20 MPH Winds

  1. Lake sailing has it's uniqueness.

Saturday we placed the windward mark pretty close to the shoreline and while I didn't have time to watch much of the racing up toward the mark, my bet is that the geographics played an important part up near the windward mark.

Sunday we got everything out in the open pretty well, except we placed the start finish line pretty close to the cove. This created some gusts coming out of the cove and off the points near the RC model cove/launch ramp. Some folks really struggled trying to get across the finish line short tacking from directly downwind.

  2. We S2-7.9ers liked and appreciated what the PRO did this weekend.

  3. I want to say that Itch deserves special mention in this regatta.

Paul and his crew have traveled around the country to big regattas for a number of years. They have gotten spanked from time to time because they lacked the experience in conditions we don't normally experience in lake sailing. They obviously took those lessons to heart by winning every race this weekend.

One of the crew, Mr. Chambers, would not quit just because the splice in the spinnaker halyard failed. He untied the head sail halyard to retie it and hoist the chute. Then he untied it from the chute and retied it to the head sail at the leeward mark.

I feel privileged to sail in the company of such people and learn from their dedication and determination.
